Ginkgo is at present the only representative of the family which was common 200 million years ago. As it looks like its ancestors, it is called "living fossil". Ginkgo comes from China, but it does not occur there in its natural form any longer. Yet, as it has been sacred and planted in temple gardens for centuries, it has survived up till present times. Ginkgo tolerates pollution, and so it accommodates easily to city life.
